Trade Tasting by Day - Benefit for Share Our Strength's Taste of the Nation by Night. The Portuguese Trade & Tourism Office & The Port and Douro Wines Institute will present more than 400 wines and ports.

Back by popular demand! ViniPortugal, the Portuguese Trade and Tourism Office and the Port and Douro Wines Institute are pleased to introduce more than 60 Portuguese wine producers to Chicago on Tuesday, April 17. After a successful foray into the Windy City last fall, members of the trade and consumers alike will have an exclusive opportunity to sample more than 400 new wines and never-before-tried ports.

The event will be held at the InterContinental Chicago (505 N. Michigan Ave.) and the day's events will be divided into two categories: a trade tasting from 2 to 5:30 p.m. and a food and wine tasting open to the public benefiting Share Our Strength's Taste of the Nation from 5:30 to 8 p.m. (suggested donation of $25 at the door).

Reservations for both programs may be made by phone at (800) 871-9012, extension 22171# or at Email your reservation to Wagstaff-worldwide

The schedule of the day is as follows:

Afternoon:
From 2 to 5:30 p.m., the Portuguese wine tasting will be open to industry professionals and press. Guests will have an opportunity to meet representatives from ViniPortugal, the Portuguese Trade and Tourism Office and the Port and Douro Wines Institute, not to mention more than 60 producers who will be on hand to pour and demystify Portuguese wines. This year, Port and Douro wines will have a particular spotlight, with their own tasting area. A seminar titled "Keys to Understanding Portugal's Major Grape Varietals" will take place from 2 to 2:30 p.m. Food to complement the pours will be in abundance.

Evening:
From 5:30 to 8 p.m., the afternoon's forum will transform into a spirited wine and food tasting open to the public, which will benefit Share Our Strength's Taste of the Nation. For those eager to sharpen their knowledge of Portuguese wines, the "Keys to Understanding Portugal's Major Grape Varietals" seminar will again take place from 6 to 6:30 p.m. A $25 donation is suggested at the door, 100 percent of whose proceeds will benefit the charity. Share Our Strength's Taste of the Nation, presented by American Express, is the nation's largest and finest culinary benefit supporting the effort to end childhood hunger in America.

Every spring, thousands of the best chefs and restaurants donate their time, talent and cuisine to create more than 60 events throughout the United States and Canada. Funds raised are granted to organizations that work to end childhood hunger, both in communities where Taste of the Nation events are held and in other communities across the country. Please visit Check the Share Our Strength website for more information and to learn about the organization's June 25, 2007 event in Chicago.
