Elias Bellos
Elias Bellos is the Editor in Chief of the Greek weekly financial newspaper «Isotimia», in charge of its supplements and special publications, and Editor in Chief of Whisky Magazine’s Greek Edition, first published in December of 2004. Born in Athens, Elias has a degree in Political and European studies in Athens University and a Master’s degree in International Relations Theory and Philosophy from the University of Kent in Canterbury.
Before joining Nemesis he held the position of researcher in the Greek European Centre of Studies, and his business interests include a school of arts in Athens and a theatre, co-owned with members of his family.
Thierry Benitah
Thierry Bénitah joined La Maison du Whisky as General Manager in 1995, a family owned company created by his father in 1956. La Maison du Whisky offers a range of more than a 1,000 whiskies through its shops located in Paris, La Reunion Island, a network of 2,000 retailers, bars, hotels and restaurants and through its website www.whisky.fr. Thierry Bénitah is also the editor of Whisky Magazine France and the co-organizer of Whisky Live Paris, and opens the first La Maison shop in Singapore in January 2006.
Neil Boyd
(John Dewar & Sons) Neil Boyd has worked for Whyte & Mackay and Glenmorangie in various sales and marketing roles. Since 1999 he has worked for Bacardi Global Brands, first on the William Lawson range and now as Global Brand Director for John Dewar and Sons and William Lawson.
Dave Broom
(Author) Dave Broom is one of the most respected writers across the whole of the drinks trade. Contributing Editor of Whisky Magazine and a prolific, award winning author, his honesty and candour bring a fresh voice to the World Whiskies Conference.
Steve Camisa
(Sazerac Company, Inc./Buffalo Trace Distillery) As a Master of Laws Stephen Camisa joined Sazerac as Corporate Counsel in 1993, providing the company with in-house legal services. In 1997, he was appointed Vice President and General Counsel of Sazerac. In 1998, he moved to Kentucky, where he assumed the additional responsibilities of leading Sazerac’s international division and the “Homeplace” division, and has been instrumental in the development of Sazerac’s Buffalo Trace Distillery and its flagship brand, Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, as well as the Antique Collection and Sazerac Rye.
Michael Chye
(International Beverage Holdings Limited) Michael has more than 20 years experience in accounting, finance and investments in Asia. He is the Chief Financial Officer of International Beverage Holdings Limited (InterBev) and a director of Inver House Distillers in Scotland. InterBev is the wholly owned Hong Kong subsidiary of Thai Beverages Public Company Ltd in Thailand, the producer of Mekhong and Sang Som Thai whiskies.
David Croll
David first became involved in the whisky industry in 1995 towards the end of a 15 year career in finance, spanning London, Singapore and Tokyo. As one of the founder shareholders in Isle of Arran Distillers, he established a company in Japan to act as their importer. Arran Japan has now become Whisk-e Limited and activities include distributing Springbank Distillers’ and Duncan Taylor whiskies, running the Japanese branch of the SMWS and representing Whisky Magazine.
He and his team also arranged the first-ever Whisky Live!, in Tokyo in the autumn of 2000. They are currently working on their 6th Live! event.
David King
(Cutty Sark International) David has been involved in the international drinks business since 1987. Of those 18 years, 13 have been directly involved in the international sales and marketing of Scotch Whisky, working on J&B, Edrington brands and latterly being Marketing Director of the Cutty Sark portfolio and The Glenrothes.
Horoyoshi Miyamoto
(Suntory) After a number of years working in Scotland as Deputy MD of Morrison Bowmore Distillers, Horoyoshi (better known as Mike to his many friends in Scotland) returned to Japan in 2004. He is currently Executive General Manager of Suntory’s Yamazaki distillery complex in Japan.
Chris Morris
(Brown Forman) Chris Morris is Master Distiller for Brown-Forman. Responsible for overseeing the crafting of all Heritage Group Brands and for Woodford Reserve Bourbon from the Woodford Reserve Distillery, he serves as brand ambassador for Brown-Forman at numerous trade and consumer functions.
Prof G Palmer, OBE
(Heriot Watt University) Professor Geoff Palmer of the School of Life Sciences, Heriot Watt University was awarded the OBE for services to grain science in 2003. He has published widely on distilling, fermentation and malting, most recently in the Encyclopaedia of Grain Science (Elsevier), and brings a formidable academic reputation to the Advisory Panel.
Leonard Russell
(Ian MacLeod Distillers) Leonard Russell is owner and Managing Director of Ian Macleod Distillers Ltd, an independent family company of Scotch whisky distillers, blenders and bottlers. Producing in excess of 1m cases pa, they own Glengoyne single malt distillery, along with a wide range of brands. Leonard has been in the spirits business since 1986, when he joined Scottish & Newcastle, IDV and subsequently his own family company.
Vanessa Wright
(Chivas Brothers) Vanessa has over 12 years experience in the drinks industry, covering Scotch, Irish and Bourbon. She is Communications Director for Chivas Brothers, the No 2 Scotch whisky and No 1 Malt whisky company in the world. Chivas Brothers, the Scotch whisky business of Pernod Ricard also includes the recently acquired Allied Distillers.
