Lincoln offers the largest range of university courses in grapes and wine within New Zealand, and one of the few with a cool-climate focus.

Lincoln has played an important role in fostering the wine industry revolution. Research programmes here have led directly to the establishment of South Island regions as viable areas for cool-climate viticulture and wine-making. In terms of the numbers of graduates it is also one of the largest, with about 150 students in undergraduate, postgraduate, and postgraduate research programmes.
